Growing up in the Fort Worth area, I have a lot of fond memories of my parents taking my sisters and I downtown to the Fort Worth Zoo. We all had our favorite animals and exhibits that we enjoyed seeing and it never seemed to get old. Fast forward all these years later and the zoo is still a trip that never fails to be a great time for me.

Like most, I imagine how nice it would be nice to see these animals in their natural habitats but with the world that we live in that simply isn’t very realistic and this experience is the closest that many of us can get to these magnificent animals. The Fort Worth Zoo does a fantastic job of caring for various species of animals and keeping them in a safe and well cared for environment. Coming in at #6 on ranker.com’s list of Top Zoo’s in the United States, the Fort Worth Zoo is a good time for everyone and at only $14 for adults and $10 for children it is quite affordable as well for all that you get.

Currently housing over 540 species (including 72 species of mammals, 148 species of birds and 172 species of ectotherms), the Fort Worth zoo is incredibly diverse. For guests to be able to see the vast array of inhabitants of the zoo, there are 11 different exhibits that guests are able to walk between at their own pace. These include The African Savannah (hippos, giraffes, rhinos, zebras), Asian Falls (rhinoceros, Malayan tiger, white tiger), and the World of Primates (bonobos, orangutans, mandrills) are just a few of what is offered.

The Fort Worth zoo features a 13,000 square-foot Outdoor Learning Theater which serves as an area for guests to be able to see live animal shows, learn more information about the animals in the zoo and conservation techniques they implement. Guests will be able to get up close and personal and see trainers interact with these magnificent animals.

Been to this zoo before and think you’ve seen it all? The Fort Worth Zoo is constantly working on improving their exhibits to increase guests’ satisfaction with their experiences. Earlier this month was the birth of Asali, the fourth Bonobo to be born here. If you come for a visit, look closely for her to be near her mother Mchumba as they require close care for their first two years before they become more independent. Bonobos are endangered breed and the birth of Asali is a great success with much of the praise belonging to the Fort Worth Zoo. Two baby giraffe calves which although not endangered, they are a vulnerable species. A lot of fantastic work and research is done here and I highly recommend taking a visit to see all the great things that they offer, you won’t be disappointed!
